An Unexpected Trip

Today I took an unexpected trip. I didn’t realize how much it would upset Mama Monkey. I know it’s almost Yule and I’m supposed to be good so Monkey Claus can come by and bring me presents, but I just couldn’t help myself. I think I might be getting coal now. Let me tell you what happened.

I was talking to my new friend Squirrelly (Squirrel Monkey is his real name, but I like his nickname better) when the bell rang. I followed him to the school cart. He lives far enough away to get a ride. We weren’t done talking, so I snuck on the back with him and we talked the entire ride to his house. By the time we got there, I realized I was lost. When the driver saw me there, he was nice and didn’t yell. He just asked me where I lived. I told him and he dropped me off at the far end of our village.

I planned on walking home and telling Mama Monkey all about my adventure, but someone beat me to it. She was already out looking for me when she found me a few blocks away from the cart depot. She was really upset and demanded that I ride back home with her. I tried to explain what happened, but she was really angry. I said I was sorry. Mama Monkey didn’t say anything at first. After a while, she told me not to do it again and that my punishment was to help her with the extra holiday chores. I wasn’t too happy about that, but I figured maybe that stop Monkey Claus from giving me coal. What do you think?

Anyway, happy holidays and I hope you don’t get coal!
